Just AI Division - Data and Algorithms for Communities

The Just AI Division at the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) is dedicated to fostering a meaningful relationship between social justice and technology. Our mission is to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven systems are inclusive, ethical, and transformative for all, especially marginalised communities in rural and peri-urban India.

Adopting an AI for Social Good approach, we explore the societal implications of AI across critical domains like finance, education, and public services. Through research, capacity-building, and policy advocacy, we address pressing challenges such as exclusion, bias, and opacity in AI systems.
